Make Your Ears Awesome: Bass

With a single note, it can completely change the mood of a song.

But for many of us, it’s not always easy to tune into the sound of the bass guitar.

Because of the low sound, it can be tough to hear what the bass is doing note by note.

I regularly received questions from students about how they could practice their ‘bass hearing’ skills.

The answer, involves a few things.

• You need to become familiar with the sound of the bass. To learn a little bit about sound, frequencies and what the bass can sound like.
• You need to understand the role of the bass. What is its main ‘job’? What are the bass player’s main ‘responsibilities’? Why do we need a bass part?
• What sort of things does the bass play? What are the typical parts a bass player likes to play?

This is exactly what you’ll learn in this course.

We’ll do a ton of listening to different tracks and with different bass parts to see what the bass does ‘in action’. This gives you a much better sense of what you can expect, which makes it easier to learn bass parts by ear.

Speaking of which, of course, we’ll also take a close listen to dozens of cool tracks to figure out bass the bass parts, note by note.
